Abstract
The book under review deals with the socio-cultural and ideological aspects of globalization and attempts to analyze the relationship between globalization, its ideological-cultural basis, and the middle class in the context of Lucknow. The middle-class youth are adjusting to the changes in their ideologies and cultures to an extent that can be defended and adapted to the traditional social matrix of the city. The pace of change may accelerate with the growth of the globalizing economy and city life as the present middle-class youth’s life-worlds are being shaped by emerging global trends. Ranging from their dressing pattern to their eating habits, leisure time, and communicative patterns, they display change and resilience. The traditional ethos of familial, caste, and national ties is still alive. The educationally qualified professional youth is not homogeneous but rather amorphous. However, there still exists some form of metamorphosis between what is local and what is global. The book under review meticulously examined the process of cultural globalization in a globalizing city, namely, Lucknow, empirically. The book is very useful for students, teachers, and researchers working in the field of globalization and new media.
